I call this image Remuda Boss because of the expression of the lead mare. She was clearly the leader of the herd. You can see that she has the attention and respect of the other horses and her foal.
In 2012, I had the opportunity to spend a couple of days with the late David Stoecklein at a workshop south of Missoula, Montana. Not only did I get to learn and listen to the stories of a legendary western photographer, but I also got to see some legendary working ranches in the area. It’s an experience that I will never forget, and thankful that I had it.
This photo was taken near Stevensville, MT on a ranch that bred and raised Quarter Horses along with cattle. The horses were enjoying the green grass with their babies beside them.
